As reported this week by
The Economic Times (of India), the Indian operator BSNL has invited companies to hand in proposals for a country-wide 50K WiMAX kiosk project. Completion is already scheduled for August 2008. The spectrum is coming from the ministry of information technology. I must admit that I did not understand how BSNL could get a spectrum in the 2.5GHz range when there was no formal spectrum auction process. But I guess that's the magic of how things still work in India. The following map shows the major locations in all the Indian states and seems a great place also to check if you plan to book an India trip: (click on the map to get to the site)
